Description:
The work is an adaptation of a patriotic hortatory poem by 19th century poet Sándor Petőfi, and was commissioned by The Honvéd Male Choir. The orchestral material is created by the polyphony of themes from three defining musical pieces, Appeal, based on Vörösmarty’s poem, the national anthem, and a popular patriotic religious hymn Oh, where are you, Hungarians’ shining star. At the same time, Petőfi’s poem is brought to its own life by the Male Choir’s characteristic, homogeneous sound that is markedly different from the above. The work ends on an optimistic note, full of hope.
